New Transformer Substations Delivered to Karakalpakstan

Large-scale work is currently underway across the republic to modernize and reconstruct the low-voltage power distribution network.

This year, under special development programs, Karakalpakstan plans to reconstruct and modernize 818.4 kilometers of 0.4–10 kV power transmission lines, 219 transformer substations, 7 switchgear units, and 8 distribution points. To date, 212.8 kilometers of power lines have already been installed, and 23 transformer substations have been commissioned. Construction and installation work is ongoing.

A key component of this initiative is the implementation of the President's directives, as well as the provisions of Presidential Resolution No. 459 and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 53. Under these documents, the modernization and reconstruction of 0.4–110 kV power networks in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya Region will be carried out during 2025–2029 with US$50 million in financing from the World Bank.

As part of the project, approximately UZS 102.2 billion will be invested in Karakalpakstan in 2026 to construct and modernize 462.5 kilometers of power transmission lines, install 8 distribution points, 6 switchgear units, and 118 new transformer substations. The design and cost estimates have already been completed, and the procurement of the necessary materials for construction has begun.

Today, the first eight transformer substations were delivered to Karakalpakstan under the project. The delivery of an additional 110 transformers is expected in the near future.
