The Law "On the State Flag of the Republic of Karakalpakstan" was adopted on December 14, 1992, at the 12th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The State Flag of the Republic of Karakalpakstan consists of a rectangular panel featuring three horizontal stripes of blue, yellow, and green colors. The yellow stripe is bordered by white and red fimbriations.
The blue color of the flag symbolizes water and spring. The yellow color reflects the fact that much of Karakalpakstan consists of deserts. The green color signifies the renewal of nature, spirituality, trust, and the sun. The crescent is a sacred emblem for Muslims, while the arrangement of five stars symbolizes the life and trust of the five oldest cities of Karakalpakstan.
The State Flag of the Republic of Karakalpakstan represents the Republic of Karakalpakstan on the international stage: during official delegations’ visits abroad, at international organizations, conferences, world exhibitions, and sporting events.
The State Flag of the Republic of Karakalpakstan holds equal status with the flags of other countries on the international stage.
Citizens of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as other residents living in the territory, are required to respect the State Flag of the Republic of Karakalpakstan
