A 200 MW Wind Power Plant to Be Built in Karakalpakstan under the 'Nukus-2' Project
Within the framework of the 'Nukus-2' project, a 200 MW wind power plant will be constructed in Karakalpakstan.
A contract worth USD 51 million was signed between the Asian Development Bank and ACWA Power for the implementation of the project, which also includes the construction of Central Asia’s first battery energy storage system.
The 'Nukus-2' project, featuring the region’s first battery storage facility, will provide the country with more than 727,000 MWh of clean energy annually.
Its implementation will enable Uzbekistan to receive over 727,000 MWh of environmentally friendly energy per year, reduce CO₂ emissions, and create more than 200 jobs.
This project marks an important step in Uzbekistan’s transition to a low-carbon energy future. The integration of wind generation with a battery-based storage system will strengthen the resilience of the energy grid, improve the reliability of electricity supply, and contribute to the country’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in electricity generation to 54% by 2030.
