Reconstructed Water Treatment Facilities in Nukus Commissioned
A ceremonial opening was held in the city of Nukus to mark the completion and recommissioning of the reconstructed “Nukus Suv Tozalash” water treatment facilities.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Amanbay Orynbaev and Chairman of the Board of Uzsuvta’minot JSC Ahmad Suvankulov, who congratulated participants on this significant occasion.
Previously, the capacity of the Nukus water treatment facilities stood at 60,000 cubic meters per day. As a result of reconstruction works worth 86.6 billion soums, allocated under a special Presidential decree, this figure has been increased to 90,000 cubic meters per day. Consequently, the number of residents provided with clean drinking water has grown from 279,000 to more than 340,000 people.
In addition, construction works have begun in Nukus, Takhiyatash and Khodjeyli districts on facilities and 286 kilometers of sewer networks, financed by the World Bank with a total amount of USD 78 million. At the same time, projects to improve the water supply system are underway in Amudarya, Beruniy, Karaozak, Kungrad, Muynak and Nukus districts, financed by the Asian Development Bank with USD 145 million.
During the ceremony, Uzsuvta’minot JSC handed over specialized service vehicles to enterprises responsible for operating the water treatment facilities and sewage networks.
Participants also visited the site to familiarize themselves with the completed works.
